I finished reading The Beach by Alex Garland today. I used to love the film version; with the paradise, love and of course Leonardo. But I kind of hate the film now because it romanticizes what is, in theory, a fucked up intense book and creates this idea of paradise but barely focuses on the paradox. The book is remarkable. It was one of those amazing bits of writing where it remains in your head long after you put it down. I am tempted to flick to the start and go at it again, but I have more books waiting me, if uni would only settle down.
Regardless, I still think Danny Boyle is a great director, and I felt somewhat sacreligious making such negative connotations on what was once my favourite film. So, I'll conclude with one final statement: sick soundtrack.
Dario G Feat. Vanessa Quinones - Voices
You might be more familiar with Dario G's Sunchyme. A gay anythem and quite possibly one of the most recognizable film clips of the 90s.
