Exile

This song is weird/super cool.

Exile - Dawn of the Nothing.

Props to Jimmy, again. Superhero.

Another Superhero/film maker wizard looking dapper David Lynch

Things have been quiet on the Western (suburbs) front. Study and funds are keeping things to a minimum. Let June/July be more prosperous.

Enjoying the cold weather and the nearing Return of the King.

Lots of love and warmth.

Stuff White People Like

So there's a publication called Stuff White People Like. If you happened to stumble accidentally across this blog, and were unaware, I am Caucasian - meaning this was directed to people such as myself, I went into it cynically (I AM DIFFERENT!) but soon realised, cynicism is a supposed 'white' 'quality' (I put them in two separate inverted commas for good reason.

Let's take a journey through what this author assumes white people like, and let's see how much of it I personally like.

David Cross, "alternative comedian" as it was put. Guilty. I love him, and have read his book "I Drink for a Reason" probably too many times.

A list of albums that white people have on their iPod, and whether I do or not:

- Arcade Fire: Funeral... I have it. And love it.
- The Beatles: Let it Be... Affirmative. 2/2.
- Bob Dylan: Blonde on Blonde... Yep.
- Neutral Milk Hotel: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.... I do enjoy this album.
- The Velvet Underground: The Velvet Underground and Nico... I am now ashamed to say I have always listed this as one of my favourite albums.
- Belle and Sebastian: Tigermilk... I don't have this specific album on my ipod, but I do have a few of the tracks. Let's call that a half mark?
- The Clash: London Calling... I used to really enjoy The Clash, not so much anymore. But I still have it...
- Joanna Newsom: Ys... I don't have this one... I have never really liked her that much.
- Pavement: Slanted and Enchanted... Unfortunately I never jumped on the Pavement bandwagon, so this is a negative.
- Pixies: Doolittle... I have it. I have a collector's boxset addition of their entire back catalogue, and I went to the Doolittle tour. Um. Yeah. I love this album. FuuUck. (Sidenote: I did never think it was original to like it)
- A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders.... Yeah I fucking love that album so much it's sickening.

Final score: 9.5/11.

So, music wise... White taste?

Arrested Development
is supposedly loved by white people. I love that show. It says that white people also rarely admit to watching TV, but I think TV is the greatest.

The Wire.
I hate the Wire. It was way to long and boring. Gotya there!

Musical Comedy.
I actually despise musical comedy, it makes my skin crawl.

Standing still at concerts.
I understand what angle he's coming from, but I do dance. A lot. And not well (definitely a white thing).

Expensive Sandwiches.
I eat $9 sandwiches and enjoy them.

Singer-Songwriters.
Definitely, definitely guilty of this.

Wes Anderson Movies.
Yeeeeppppp... I love them.

The Simpsons.
...who doesn't?

Musical Festivals.
Refer to previous answer.

Not Having Cash.
Well, I don't like it, but I also don't have a lot of it.

Anyway, I did their final checklist of 150 things and my results were:

94/150
Putting myself in the supposed 70 - 80% white category.

Predictability isn't necessarily that bad.

Here's a nice white image. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Catchya.

Happy?

I saw Snowtown tonight. It was absolutely incredible, but I left the cinema feeling numb. At one point I thought I might never be happy again. But I came home and put this one on... Turn that frown UPSIDE DOWN.

Snowtown is definitely worth seeing, if you can stomach it.

Goodnight.

Lauryn Hill - (Doo Wop) That Thing

This is also pretty blissful, Fred Astaire and Fred Astaire Junior.

You're standing on my neck

I used to watch heaps of Daria when I was a kid. It made me want to cut my hair off and wear knee high docs, this was before docs were 'cool' and in bright colours. I don't want to do that at all anymore, particularly the docs part. But I remember some great tracks that I got from Daria. I would always watch the credits, and remember the lyrics, and then search the lyrics so I could find the song. But besides that, the episodes were riddled with classic tunes. I distinctly remember these:

Side Note: Daria gets better with age.

Cake - Friend is a Four Letter Word:

Beck - Dead Weight (A Life Less Ordinary)

KoRn - Freak on a Leash

Semisonic - Closing Time
I used to LOVE this one! Haha!

Portishead - Only You

Daria is the best show ever.

Well, behind...

All my love forever

Liv.

Bowie, Iggy and Lou. Yeahh!

"You can quote me, on your blog."
M. Weatherston, 2011.

Probably not the quote he was looking for!

All my love every day.

Kurt Vile

Thanks, Ridicholas for this one.

Think I just listened to it about 40 times in a row. It was a good evening. Not as productive as one might have hoped, but it was enjoyable.

Kurt Vile - In My Baby's Arm

All my love in the world.

CK

I have a big soft spot for Carol King. It reminds me of my childhood, my Mum used to always play Tapestry. I love this one:

Hmmmmm

Mother

Happy Mothers Day

One Mother's day my brother, sister and I didn't do a very good job, so Sal made us repeat it the next week.

Mum's a massive Beatles and John Lennon fan.
Love always.

Steph, mum and I.

Choice

Love these tunes.

Vibe meter is off the charts listening to these records. This post is a shambles of tunes and images I like. It's nothing deep, it's nothing structured.

Vibin'.

Massive.

Liv it up.

Mr. Beatnick feat. Ahu - I know all the bitches (Bullion Remix)

Jacques Greene - Another Girl

Raphael Saadiq - Movin' Down the Line

TOKiMONSTA - The world is ours

AND BIG PROPS TO MY MATE and guise (!!) Jim for this one
The Weeknd - House of Balloons

All my love.
Always.

Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

Explosions new album, again, just phenomenal. It's ridiculous. Everything they do is nothing short of utter brilliance. I am in awe.

Vice n Pieces

Vice can be pretty wanky, but I love the following "Vice Guides"

Vice Guide to North Korea is loose! It's a 14 part thing. I would seriously recommend it, it's super weird though. Shane Smith is really a likable dude as well. Here's part 01 and it gives links to the rest:

The Vice Guide to being totally crushed out:
http://www.viceland.com/int/v10n3/htdocs/the_vice_guide.php

And my favourite from within the A-Z guide of basically how to catch the person you're crushing hard on.

B: BORROWING
Borrow a book or a movie just so you have the excuse to see him again, or even conveniently leave something like a sweatshirt at his house. This is a no-fail plan, because if he sees your sweatshirt lying around, he’ll have to think about you and be reminded of your charm (plus you left pheromones in it). Forced thinking is good, even though it’s commonly known as “mind rape.” Of course, the plan backfires if you decide you don’t like him. Then you have the annoying burden of meeting up. You could then decide in a Zenlike way that it’s “just a sweatshirt” and leave it as a relic for him to pine over forevermore

I've definitely done this before, ha ha... I thought it was super clever at the time, but perhaps it is more common than I thought, and not as clever as I once suspected. Hahaha. Well, I guess I am not quite as scheming as I intended to be, but I got what I wanted.

And I do love Vice's Do or Don'ts ...

Anyway,
it's a Tuesday. And here's a track from a band I love

The Rural Alberta Advantage and their track "Stamp"

And this is nuts!

Bits n Pieces

Panda Bear - Alsatian Darn

Sun Lux - Rising

Silk Flowers - Small Fortune

KCRW

KCRW is a public radiostation based in Santa Monica College. It does great sessions on it. Memorable ones include: Sia, PJ Harvey, Cat Power and Arcade Fire. Here's some samples of sessions. Their most noteworthy program is Morning becomes Eclectic. They get some great bands on there. It's worth podcasting.

PS. The Sia one is mind-blowing. Her old stuff is so much better than her new stuff it's basically two different artists.

Peace and love and jazz,
Liv

Sia - Breathe Me

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home

Arcade Fire - Intervention
This is beautiful

Elliott Smith - Angeles

And completely unrelated
2 Days in Paris is such a great flick

Also:
I fucking hate Phoenix. But this Grizzly Bear/Brian Eno thing is pretty gnarly.

Not anymore

Songs to get you through a Sunday evening

Portishead - Glory Box
This album is one of the best albums, probably ever.

Flying Lotus - Tea Leaf Dancers

The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
